embedded geometry in performer

Hi,
Im trying to use volumiser within performer to visualise a geometric
model together with volume data and this is my problem. The model and
the volume seem to be drawn ok except when the model is drawn embedded
within the volume. At this point, only the pixels corresponding to the
model are drawn to the frame buffer and the volume data out of sight.
When I tried removing the glDepthMask(GL_FALSE) in the volume drawing,
the reverse happens(the model cant be seen). The examples that come
along with volumiser seem to draw embedded geometry within the volume
drawing function, but I dont think this will be possible using a
scene-graph API like performer.
Please help!
