Subject: Commercial & Military Aircraft Models

We are interested in receiving catalogs, listings, prices, and availability
for many commercial and military aircraft models. The models should have
multiple levels-of-detail and have separate customer modifiable texture for
various airlines. Can anyone who has a wide variety of off-the-shelf models
available, please respond directly by: Mail, Fax, or E-Mail ? Aircraft desired
range from Boeing, Airbus, McD-Douglas large commercial liners, to mid-size
jets, commuters, private, executive, and military fighter, transport, and
others etc. All international makes and models. Helicopters too. Perhaps
someone knows of a library of models?

   Thanks !

One vendor that I'm aware of is Viewpoint Datalabs in Orem, Utah
(USA). According to their catalog you can reach them at
1-800-DATASET, or from outside the US at (801) 224-2222.

Note: Please don't interpret this as an endorsement of Viewpoint
over other vendors. If anyone has pointers to other vendors I'd be
happy to collect a list for the FAQ.

Also, Performer 1.2 will include a large ( > 300 Mb) set of models
from various vendors & popular databases in an optionally-loaded
subsystem.

Try Viewpoint DataLabs in Orem, Utah, USA. I counted over 100
airplane/spacecraft models and I didn't bother to count how many
helicopters. Unfortunately, they are polygon data only, no texture, but it
is a start.

Their address and phone number is

Viewpoint DataLabs
870 West Center
Orem, UT 84057, USA
1-800-DATASET in the US
(801) 224-2222
FAX (801) 224-2272

They have a catalog (I am looking at the Volume II Dataset Catalog).
They offer all of their models in more than 52 different formats and do
custom work also. I haven't used any of their models, but I have seen them
used in lots of different projects.

You can get all kinds of 3D models in various formats from:

    avalon.chinalake.navy.mil (129.131.31.11)

by using anonymous ftp. That is apparently the main ftp host for 3D models
(objects) on Internet.

Paradigm Simulation Inc. has an extensive set of military and commercial
aircraft models. We also have a large set of ground vehicle models. All
of these models are in Multigen Flight format and have 3-5 levels of detail
and are fully textured. Most are in use in various simulators around the
world. Contact Mike Smoot at 214-960-2301.

Is the Friends Directory available by ftp from anywhere.

jimh brought it to my lab, but the onyx OS became corrupted somehow
and my sysadmin blew away the system and is rebuilding from scratch.

Can I easily regain the Friends material over the net?

thanks
chris.

It's 155 Mbytes compressed and 380+ Mbytes in raw form.
This seems like quite a bit for us to distribute to nearly a
thousand sites over the Internet.

Suggestions?
