1 Apr 1998 4:12 PM CORRECTION: NO ADJUSTMENTS required to any WINS client. ONLY the WINS server system needs the bind-list re-ordered. We apologize for the inconvenience. 18 Mar 1998 12:00 PM PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Any systems with Windows NT 3.51/4.0, WINS Services and Inteprhase ATM adapters (PCI, PMC, EISA bus ATM). PROBLEM: Microsoft WINS Services Servers & Clients get an invalid IP address from ATM driver (usually 1.0.10.185 or 1.0.10.xxx). CAUSE: WINS Services seems to bind to adapters in alphabetical order (not alpha-numeric order). This places 'Interphase ATM 1577 Client/Server'(disabled by default) at the top of the list and 'Interphase ATM Client 1'(enabled by default) further down the list. When the list is sorted in this order, and WINS performs the protocol bind operation, it accesses the first ATM entry on the list: the disabled 'Interphase ATM 1577 Client/Server' which yields an incorrect IP address. SOLUTION: Under development. * Temporary solution: (Windows NT 4.0 example) After complete driver installation, including restart of system. On the WINS Server system: Open: Programs Open: Administrative Tools Select: WINS Manager Make a note of the correct WINS Server IP Address if available. In the WINS Servers window: Highlight: 1.0.10.84 (or 1.0.10.xxx) Pull-Down: Servers Select: Delete WINS Server Exit: WINS Manager Open: Programs Open: Setting Open: Control Panel Open: Network Select: Bindings Select: all protocols Select: WINS Client(TCP/IP) Click-and-Drag: Interphase ATM LANE Client 1 to top of list, right after the WINS Client(TCP/IP) Click: OK In the new window, you may get a dialog box requesting IPX internal ID and routing information. Click: OK Restart (Click: Yes)
